Hyundai Santa Fe Review

Hyundai Santa Fe

2012 Hyundai Santa Fe

After many years filled the class of off-road vehicle with a license-based Mitsubishi Pajero, at the end of the last century specialists Hyundai decided to play alone. Koreans showed their first own work in 2000 Hyundai Santa Fe was designed to intervene in one of the most important niches in the U.S. market, which brand was absent. The new SUV did it with a bang. Although it was adopted by a standing ovation for his atypical appearance model search in the U.S. was so furious that at times the company does not keep up with orders.

Although up to U.S. demands, Santa Fe finds warm welcome all over the world and Europe in particular. SUVs became the absolute bestseller thanks to the excellent balance between quality and price. His success was continued by the second generation. Like any used car Hyundai Santa Fe has characteristic weaknesses, which would be well known to anyone who wants to have this car.

Most owners of models agree on at some of his proven deficiencies. The general opinion cabin soundproofing could certainly be more solid. In the cabin, penetrating sounds too much – especially in the neck area. The problem seems to be annoyed enough holders Hyundai Santa Fe, to appear whole kit for extra insulation offered by different companies for accessories. Otherwise, commercial orientation and the SUV-the U.S. market Hyundai evident everywhere. The car has a very rich even basic equipment modifications. Serial equipment includes air conditioning, front and side air bags (Santa Fe has four stars for safety tests EuroNCAP). Without shine with exceptional quality materials in the interior and pryaitni the eye and to the touch and fit is very high. In no layout design experiments, and visibility is excellent in all directions without back – say the word massive columns on the roof.

One of the few criticisms of the model since its non-traditional look to stir. Many find it too strange and dissonant. These remarks could be heard and the new wave other Hyundai models by the end of the last century, for which Korean designers chose to return to the services of specialized studios. Liked it or not, the body of the Korean SUV boasts excellent fit and absolute equanimity to corrosion. As a typical problem it can be mentioned only sting to open the hood, and that aging tends to be shorter in cold weather, limiting all access to the engine compartment. Changes are easy and relatively cheap.

European versions of the Hyundai Santa Fe is equipped with three petrol engines and one turbodiesel. The basic unit volume of 2.0 liters and power 136 hp is well known from the Sonata, which incidentally was the platform used in the design of SUV. Its quality and durability are unknown, but it should not be forgotten that the SUV-is seen to be quite heavy, which shortens its resources. It needs regular replacement of the belts of peripheral nodes and distribution mechanism more often than usual, some experts advise the procedure to be performed every 50,000 km. Much more appropriate for such a car is 2.4-liter engine with 146 hp and especially V-shaped six-cylinder with a volume of 2.7 liters (173 horses). In addition to providing significantly more dynamics are simple to service and are extremely reliable. Like most small engines are also sensitive to the quality of petrol and often need to wash nozzles harness and premature replacement candles. Same weakness shows two-liter turbodiesel which injection system is usually called after 40-50 thousand km and then more so need replacing nozzles. Like nabazoviya engine timing belt should be changed at most 60,000 km and glow plugs – 100 000.

Especially for the U.S. market place Koreans modification of Hyundai Santa Fe 3.5-liter V-type gasoline engine with 203 hp To come across such a car in Europe is rare, and a copy of such purchase is not recommended. Besides destroying a fuel appetite harvester, maintenance can create headaches table.

As a thoroughbred SUV Santa Fe can not claim much of a road, but in a version with four-wheel drive (there are versions with one axle) is able to stretch most of its competitors in this segment. It is equip with both manual and automatic transmission with the need of changing the oil every 60,000 and 45,000 km respectively. Prospective owners of the Hyundai Santa Fe AWD should be ready for the tears of the transfer case seals after clocking of 100,000 km. Otherwise problems powertrain is not much, but annoying. The machine, for example, reacted sharply candid slowly pressing the accelerator. Manual boxes of the early series model does tend to jolt a “crush” clutch. The reason lies in broken friction linings and also belongs to the structural defects of the car. Hyundai specialists have decided to locate the flywheel depreciable springs where they act detrimental lining even in friendly modes of operation. The problem is solved faster than Asians, but if the gym has a smell of brake dust, potential buyers have to prepare purchase brake pads.

Suspension Hyundai Santa Fe copes with bad road conditions. It is also easy to maintain and not very expensive, as most parts can be replaced individually. A characteristic feature of the chassis are Tropez sounds when crossing bumps – usually in cold weather. Many mechanics say that due to the specifics of gas shock absorbers. Their appearance does not bode actually scary, but can be extremely annoying even for people with strong nerves. The problem is easily solved, if the owner can not afford to replace the factory shock absorbers with non-original products of reputable manufacturers – such Takika or Kayaba. Sure, there are cheaper options. Otherwise Suspension investment is often not necessary. Resource bushings stabilizer lateral stability of the front axle takes 50-60 000 kilometers, often hinges withstand under 90-100000 and rear many linkage construction is virtually maintenance free. However, once 20,000 must be set convergence of wheels.

Hyundai Santa Fe is rightly considered a key model in the history of Hyundai. Thanks to the quality, reliability and low cost Korean company made its first massive breakthrough in the American market, whose fruit still robbery. However, its merits become almost obsolete and European soil.

Koreans managed to break away sizable chunk of the modern SUV segment, and Santa Fe is one of the most advantageous offers for this car. Its design is very Asian, but otherwise it is difficult to find flaws in the model. On the contrary, plenty of space, comfortable seats, the opportunity for whole 2.3 tons (1.9 metric tons in the version with front-wheel drive) attached to a hitch – all qualities that speak in favor of the Korean car. When starting the rescue tuned short first gear and automation, serial for 2.7 V6, optional for diesel.

There is a separate set of velocities of harsh terrain, and this in combination with the relative height of the chassis and good alloy wheels limited the scope to not very difficult routes. Asphalt Santa Fe provides a relaxed and carefree journey, even though the steering wheel is not very precise. The diesel engine is hampered least 1.8 tons heavy body, but at the expense of subsequent resale would be easier.

The most common problems with the Hyundai Santa Fe

cases of broken timing belt (gasoline 2001), leaks common rail (diesel 2003), faulty fuel pump (2001), disturbances in motor management (2001), defects in the clutch, leading to rapid deterioration (2001)

Pros: very good price: quality, good spatial relations, good seats

Cons: – poor applicability to difficult terrain, a wide range of conversion, an indirect steering, brakes relatively weak

The new Hyundai Santa Fe is quite interesting. Honestly, even I like a lot. Engine speeds are Mercedes (to my knowledge), and the species is very successful. Generally be heard only positive reviews for Hyundai Santa Fe. There are things you do not want to hide!

My Hyundai Santa Fe 2.0 CRDI is 2002 250000 km. For what we want to do better in times of Suzuki. Smoother ride, easier management. maintenance would not say severe. But in two different categories and are not comparable.

2 years driving Hyundai Santa fe 2.0-CRDI (112,000 km) imported from Italy. After 9 months riding around 7 thousand km I did repair the gearbox, now with more’d done 27 thousand kilometers I have repaired or replace the rack, although not so cheap these repairs like scary car. Comfortable ride and plenty of room for passengers and luggage-perfect family 4×4 car.
